Water fluoridation is a very contentious issue in Australia.

The word “Democracy” has lost its meaning in Australia. Our state governments are poisoning our drinking water without asking their citizens whether they want it or not. They act like an undemocratic totalitarian bunch of know-it-alls, and take advice from their health bureaucrats that is decades out of date. Their fallacious claim is that fluoridated water will “cure” tooth decay, but if we look at Tasmania (see below) which has been fluoridated for over 50 years, covering 83% of the population, their dental health is the worst in the country. Tooth decay results from poor dental hygiene and a poor diet - particularly the excessive consumption of soft drinks - NOT a lack of fluoride.

In Mildura, a regional city in north-western Victoria, Australia, A Voice of Australia Fluoride Referendum showed that 94% of the population were against their water being fluoridated. Despite this abundantly clear message, the Victorian government ignored the will of the people and is going ahead with fluoridating their water. They must have removed the word “Democracy” from their vocabulary.

Why on earth would a government want to fluoridate all of our water when a person, according to World Vision, uses 282 litres of water a day and is supposed to drink 2 litres of water per day, and many don’t drink that amount? So, 280 litres of fluoridated water that we use for the shower, flushing the toilet, washing the dishes, washing our clothes etc goes down the drain and finishes up in the ocean and our reef.
A large number of people in Australia have dentures, is fluoridated water good for “denture health” or do our pot plants need to be watered with fluoridated water? A cup of tea contains 4 Mg of fluoride; it would be cheaper to drink tea than to poison our water? It just doesn't make any sense.
The uninformed people who still believe that water fluoridation is effective should read the book by investigative journalist, Christopher Bryson, “The Fluoride Deception.” The many people to whom I lent this book said, “Wow!” to what they discovered. – Werner
Do you enjoy tales of intrigue, conspiracy and corruption? Then The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson won’t disappoint. It’s a very well written, meticulously researched expose´ of the history of fluoridation, which Dr Robert Carton (formerly of the US Environmental Protection Agency) has described as “the greatest case of scientific fraud of this (20th) century, if not of all time”. It’s a history of “greed, collusion, personal aggrandizement, corporate and government cover-up,” littered with human tragedy and the tattered careers of scientists who dared to try to expose the truth.
“The Fluoride Deception" reveals how a secretive group of powerful industries, all of which faced extensive litigation for fluoride pollution, collaborated with officials from the National Institute of Dental Research to launder fluoride’s public image.” It also points out the significant and wide-ranging health concerns of long-term consumption of even minute quantities of this poison, for its supposed benefit in preventing tooth decay.
There is growing scientific evidence that consuming fluoridated water provides little, if any benefit to dental health, and that the risks far outweigh any possible benefit. If you value your health and that of your loved ones, educate yourself about water fluoridation, and help to spread the word. The Fluoride Deception is a good place to start. I found it compulsive reading – as good as any conspiracy novel you’d ever read. Unfortunately, however, this is not a work of fiction. - Unquote.

Now let us look at some Tasmanian facts, by courtesy of DANIELLE BLEWETT. 20/08/2009. This should convince the most ardent pro fluoridationist that water fluoridation doesn’t work and is an absolute waste of money. I quote:

BRING out your teeth!
Tasmanians have some of the worst teeth in Australia - with a tooth being pulled once every three minutes. The Federal Government urged Tasmanian parents to get their kids to the dentist quick smart.
This year Medicare Australia sent out 38,100 vouchers to Tasmanians, each valued at $153.45 for teenagers to get a preventative dental health check-up. Families will get a voucher each calendar year and this year's vouchers are valid until December 31.
To be eligible, a teenager must be entitled to receive Medicare benefits and be aged 12 to 17 years.
The voucher covers one annual preventative check consisting of an oral examination, a scale and clean, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instruction, dietary advice and or fissure seal.
"Teenagers need to present their voucher when they have this check," Medicare Australia's Mark Jackson said. According to the Australian Health and Medical Research Council: 11.2 per cent of Tasmanians aged 25 to 44 wear dentures, almost double the national average.
A tooth is extracted every three minutes in public dental services around Australia. Tasmania has the highest percentage of people wearing a denture in the nation.
The rate of 23.1 per cent is 4.6 per cent higher than national average of 18.5 per cent. In all the age categories from 25 to 65-plus, Tasmania is significantly above the national average. 41 per cent of Tasmanians in the 45 to 64-year-old category have dentures, which is 12 per cent above the national average. Unquote.

An old bottle label reveals that Fluoride is used to kill round worm in pigs. While Tasmania’s pigs might be free of round worm, it is certainly not free of tooth decay. According to an article in the “The Australian” some time ago, NSW is not in a better “state” as far as tooth decay is concerned. – Werner
And here is what the Hon. James Killen, (deceased) former Australian Cabinet Minister said: “I believe, and I believe passionately, that it is not the duty of the State to dose its people like cattle." 1964, Hansard page. 1142. (And dosing us like cattle is exactly what they are doing. – Werner)

If we have “friends” like Dr John Carnie, we don’t need enemies. And, if the government of Victoria takes advice from fat cat bureaucrats such as “fluoride Carnie,” God help us.

This Carnie fellow has never stepped out of his little box and tried to get to the bottom of the fluoride deception. Is he perhaps affright that the same fate would await him like Dr. John Colquhoun the former New Zealand Government Chief dental officer, who was at first also for water fluoridation, but after he completed an extensive research on this subject, and published a truthful report, titled: “Why I changed my mind on fluoride,” was summarily sacked for telling the truth.

Yes, very true, Water Wise Victorian. And John Colquhoun isn't the only one who lost his job because he told the truth about fluoride. Eminent scientist, Phyllis Mullenix, was an early casualty for the same reason. And the South Australian Dental Association has 'disowned' their former President, Dr Andrew Harms, because he has spoken out against fluoridation.

It is unfortunate that we have small-minded politicians and bureaucrats in this country, who apparently haven’t discovered yet that all European countries, apart from England and Ireland, do not allow water fluoridation and that is for health reasons. Now, do our politicians and that Victorian health bureaucrat who is thumping his nose at the people of Mildura, as well as to the rest of Victorian, think those respective European governments are stupid?

The use of Sodium Fluoride for population behaviour control.

It is a matter of record that sodium fluoride has been used for behaviour control of populations. In an Address in reply to the Governor's Speech to Parliament, [Victorian Hanstard, August 12, 1987, Nexus, Aug/Sept 1995], Mr. Harley Rivers Dickinson, Liberal Party Member of the Victorian Parliament for South Barwon, Australia, made a statement on the historical use of fluorides for behaviour control.

At the end of the Second World War, the United States Government sent Charles Elliot Perkins, a research worker in chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and pathology, to take charge of the vast Farben chemical plants in Germany. While there, he was told by German chemists of a scheme which had been worked out by them during the war and adopted by the German General Staff.

"This scheme was to control the population in any given area through mass medication of drinking water. In this scheme, sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place.

Repeated doses of infinitesimal amounts of fluoride will in time reduce an individual's power to resist domination by slowly poisoning and narcotising a certain area of the brain, and will thus make him submissive to the will of those who wish to govern him.

Both the Germans and the Russians added fluoride to the drinking water of prisoners of war to make them stupid and docile.

It is manifestly clear that our state governments adopted the modus operandi of the Nazis and the Russians. It is absolutely disgusting and that is an understatement.

Isn’t nice to see that the major pro-fluoride proponent, the USA, may finally wake to the fluoride folly and wants to reduce Fluoride in drinking water. Isn’t it enough that we have to breathe in polluted air, why do we have to drink polluted water?

While it is impossible to avoid breathing in polluted air; to avoid drinking fluoridated water is simple – just keep this poison out of the water altogether. It has been proven beyond doubt that is has no benefit for teeth other than topical application by the dentist.

There is also toothpaste with fluoride and as Werner said, “a cup of tea has 4 mg of fluoride,” well, those are much cheaper and better options.

Since most of this stuff comes from China and we don’t know what else comes with it that in itself is worrisome. Werner you are doing an excellent job with your very informative blog, keep up the good work.

I have grown up in Perth W. A. where the water is fluoridated, I cannot apprehend what all the fuss is about, I have no problem with fluoride.

Great article Werner. It is so sad that some people continue to bury their heads in the sand when more and more evidence points to the dangers of water fluoridation.

These people either have vested interests or are dinosaurs and neanderthals. Some of them say that they have drunk fluoride all their life and they have good teeth. Well they should be told that there are over 50% of Queensland children who have never drunk fluoride and have perfect teeth. Statistics tell the truth not individual stories.

Thanks for quoting the Tasmanian statistics. Heresay and individual stories are like believing in Santa Claus.

Megan, I assume that by saying that you had no problem with fluoride means that your teeth are free from tooth decay. Well, so are mine and I have grown up in Cairns that was free of fluoride till recently. It takes thirty years to feel the effect of mesothelioma from asbestos dust.

So it will be with fluoride; it is deposed in the skeleton of humans, so when you reach the age of fifty and onwards and suffer from arthritis or osteoporosis the doctor will give you anti inflammatory drugs, not realising that the cause of it could come from fluoride ingestion.

There are no laboratories in Australia to test it, but as far as I know they have labs in America and it is proven that fluoride ingestion can cause the above mentioned ailments. Do yourself a favour and dig a bit deeper into this subject. And remember, dentists are not experts on toxicology and few have bothered to get out of their little box or changed their brainwashed mindset. A good start for you to find out the truth is; go to http://www.fluoridealert.org/

Megan, are you aware that the fluoride they add to our water is not the calcium fluoride found naturally in water, nor pharmaceutical grade, but that it is industrial toxic waste bought from China? And that it contains other contaminants such as lead and arsenic? I am NOT making this up. Do some research, and learn the facts. Then you might be less willing to consume this toxin.
